wHy arE we Here?

"Canongait kirkyaird in the failing year
Is auld and grey, the wee roseirs are bare,
Five gulls leem white agin the dirty air.
Why are they here? There's naething for them here
Why are we here ourselves?"
Robert Garioch

"For the love of Christ lays hold of us
and brings us to this conclusion:
one died for all,
so that they all died:
and He died for all
so that all who live
may no longer live for themselves
but for Him who died and rose for them"
11.Corinthians 5;14,15.

Today I saw an old man
walking in a narrow cobbled street
in the warm morning sunshine
he hobbled with stick
wore an old tartan beret
hunched over
beneath the lines of clothes hanging above
outside the buildings
amongst the potted red geraniums
in a Tuscan village.

Chatrini and Gruber in sT Maria

In sT Maria,
a wee church rests quiet
sweet cow bells sing
her graveyard plaques
Chatrini, Barblina, Gruber, Jaquen,
Anton, Luis, Vital, Annina, Hans
and quite a few Maria's.
Swiss names mostly unfamiliar...
beneath those white hat mountains

Psalm 98 vs 8,9
"Let the rivers clap their hands
and the mountains sing praises together
before the Lord,
for He is coming to judge the earth.
He will judge the world with justice
the peoples with unfaltering fairness."
