Joy to the World

"Then the angel said to them,
"Do not be afraid,
for behold, I bring you
good tidings of great joy
which will be to all people.
For there is born to you this day
in the city of David
a Saviour,
who is Christ the Lord."

...lean not unto thine own understanding

ONe of the fondest memories of my childhood
was the thrill of learning to ride a bike!

Trust in the Lord;
"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart;
and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him,
and he shall direct thy paths,
Be not wise in thine own eyes;
fear the Lord and depart from evil."
Proverbs 3:5,6,7.

"For whoso hearkeneth unto me shall
dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil."
Proverbs 1:33

"Trust in the Lord, and do good;
so shalt thou dwell in the land,
and verily thou shall be fed."

I accidentally deleted this picture earlier and have lost a poem or two with my mucking around!

Trusting in the Lord...another scripture:

"Woe to them that go down to Egypt
for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots,
because they are many; and in horsemen,
because they are very strong; but they look not
unto the Holy One of Israel,
neither seek the Lord!

Yet he also is wise, and will bring evil, and will not call back his words; but will rise against the house of the evildoers, and against the help of them that work iniquity.

Now the Egyptians are men, and not God;
and their horses are flesh,
and not spirit. When the Lord shall stretch out his hand,
both he that helpeth shall fall,
and he that is helped shall fall down
and they shall all shall fall together.

For thus hath the Lord spoken unto me,
"Like as the lion and the young lion roaring on his prey,
when a multitude of shepherds is called forth against him,
he will not be afraid of their voice,
nor abase himself for the noise of them:
so shall the Lord of hosts come down to fight for mount Zion,
and for the hill therof.

As birds flying, so will the Lord of hosts defend Jerusalem;
defending also he will deliver it; and passing over he will preserve it.

I think everything must have a beginning and an end except perhaps a MacDonalds hamburger. Apparently if you put one away in a cupboard for years it will still look as good as new when you get it out!

"Lift up your eyes to the heavens,
And look on the earth beneath.
For the heavens will vanish away like smoke,
The earth will grow old like a garment,

But My salvation will be forever,
And My righteousness will not be abolished."

Meeting the Lord

The world is running out of oil creating serious shortages of nearly everything in the future, climate change is also a major concern causing droughts, earthquakes, floods etc and to make matters worse, the economic health of the nations is in trouble. There is one great comfort.
There shall come a day when all true believer's shall be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, what a comfort!
"But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.
For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from Heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.

A Ride in Spring

We can trust in God's Word, His testimony is true,
Joshua and Caleb did and entered the
Promised Land, they did not listen to the negative
report or believe other opinions. Do we choose to believe
in His truth or are we deceived by
the father of lies, the evil one
who is always ready to plant negative thoughts
in our head.

The word of the Lord is proven;

impossible, but with God all
things are possible."

Yellow Blossom - Vietnam Series of sketches

Each year in Vietnam the people celebrate the New Year around the end of January, (Tet Celebrations) Everywhere you looked the city was decorated with lovely lemon coloured blossoms and yellow marigolds and yellow chrysanthemums. Large pots like the one above decorated the footpath outside our hotel.

A Family Home Hoi An

In Hoi An we went for a bicycle ride, I stopped and sketched this pretty home and soon the owners came out and invited us in and gave us a tour of their house, including a walk on their roof deck. They could not speak a word of English but with hand signals and nods etc we managed to understand one another. As a thankyou I gave them a brightly coloured cotton handerchief as a gift. The Vietnamese peple are so lovely and gentle and friendly.

Water Puppets in Hanoi

It is a must if you are in Hanoi, to see the wonderful puppets which act out their story on water. It was a very enjoyable and creative experience, so cleverly performed by the people of Hanoi in Northern Vietnam. Musical instruments "native" to the region were employed by the local talent as well.

This is an example of French colonial architecture, in Hanoi, Vietnam. The houses, usually narrow and often about five stories tall are often painted bright and lovely colours.

'Unpeeled apples are high in pectin, a special form of fiber that has been shown to lower cholesterol levels, bind and eliminate toxins from the GI tract, and help relieve constipation . Fresh apples contain phytonutrients including ellagic acid, which, as noted previously, possesses significant anticancer properties. Those who eat apples regularly have been shown to have far fewer colds and upper respiratory infections than those who do not. The old saying "An apple a day keeps the doctor away", has a great deal of medicinal truth to it!

Last week we dined at the Mt Dandenong

We were invited to listen to a choir in another room.
We were fortunate to enjoy this local choir who sang some gospel songs, some Beach Boys, some Italian love songs etc etc.. How lovely!

Ms Veronica Schover Sheaqied

Miss Veronica has been invited
to the crocodile's Ball.
Oh what shall she wear
she declares
to the crocodile's Ball
she frets and she sweats
gets even upset..nothing to wear
she despairs.

Sir Dickens waits while he takes
his place in line after the snakes
at the crocodile's Ball.
He sees his friend the armadillo
dancing with the tall
but dashing, young gorilla.

Madam Ramsey also is in a frenzy
hopes to dine in style.
Her mane she cannot tame
oh so vain, reaches for the sky.
The humble tortoise patiently at ease
is calm, oh so sublime
does not worry, you see.

His friend is old and very feeble
gives him a lift in his automobeetle
they spot Joe the cuscus from
Papua New Guinea
so nocturnal, wouldn't miss it.

All in all the night well spent
the delicacies a main event,
and the musicians even glistened
as moonlight on the listeners
dancing, glancing and prancing
horse and tortoises and all sorts
of creatures you see
Veronica could see she
did not need to be so anxious but free.
....Veronica intrigued.

Fancy Fair

I have managed to paint a floating chair, mmm...
And it only has two legs as well!

Today while I was going through
the checkout at the supermarket,
I was served by a
young man who had served my
daughter and I a few days earlier.
He told me that he thought my
daughter was lovely and that
she had 'made' his day.
He told me that he had been
having a dreadful day and that
when my daughter was friendly
to him at first he was overcome
but upon realizing she was genuine,
he felt so much better.
It makes you realize how
important a smile, and a friendly
attitude can bring so much healing to others.

The Pink Room

Matisse has inspired me for this painting. I admire his works very much.

There are some things
that can help insulate us
from stress.
The first is prayer.
The second is meditating
on God's word (the Bible).
The third is getting together
with other Christians.

Exercise and good food
and rest are also good.
So really the first is about
protecting the mind
and the second is about
protecting the body.

Moralla Goes to the Zoo

Miss Squibble takes a nibble
at her pickle at tea.
Her tortoise is quite nauseas
has eaten a rotten pea.
His name is Mister Leigh.

Her room mate Miss Exhaustias
is also quite
poor- sick- as,
and her pet frog Morstica
won't eat what's endorsed to her.

Their dear little sparrow sits
on the barrow watching her friend
Miss Patonia kiss Mr Aromia.
They met at a dance in Catonia.
And will wed in November in Moronia.

Miss Peerson drops in for a reason
her cockatoo will not chew.
Meanwhile Moralla the terantula
has gone to the zoo
and taken her pink umbrella too.

She knows she is lucky
her cousins in Cambodia
recently wrote to her
with news not so good for her:
for roasted tarantula
yes roasted tarantula
they outrageously serve there
yes it's true!

So Moralla so horrified
tells her cousins mortified,
they must come and
live in Australia too!

(This poem was inspired after reading a story by the lovely Alice Pung a young and well known Melbourne writer who kindly wrote for "The Big Issue" -the July edition. She wrote about how fortunate we are in Australia to be able to keep family pets. Under the Pol Pot Regime in Cambodia it was a treat for her father to find a family of scorpions to eat. Some Cambodians were forced to risk danger and eat cane toads, scorpions, banana leaves or creeping beings in order to avoid starvation. How we take so much for granted!)

Masterchef and the Purple Chick.

This is a picture for Deb...
in memory of her calling
out to Emily from
the car "Hey purple chick!"
It was so funny, we had a good laugh.

There once was a girl with a purple dress
who loved to watch Masterchef
Cooking on TV what bliss
not to be missed
Masterchef at it's best.
It is the show
that is surely blessed.

George and Gary and dear Matt
what lovely guys at that
Gary in suit, Matt with cravat
and George as casual as that.
And Sarah too, so beautiful
to introduce and guide us true.

It's nearly finished
yes, some diminished.
Who will it be?
Poh, Chris or Julie?
All professional now surely
All plating up duly
before that fatal clock.

Justine has succeeded
gourmet chef she will indeed be
Sam has returned
a talented man
to his bride, then
and Lucas will shine as he did
once again.

Oh Andre we miss you
gourmet chef is your course
and Julia will cook on
that's endorsed
yes, all will have gained from
that brave step,
to become
Australia's first...

We at home have been inspired,
opened our cookbooks wide.
Learning new tricks
and becoming little chefs,
yes we are inspired
our mouths open wide.
Thanks to all on Masterchef!

Jeremiah 31 :3,4
"The Lord has appeared of old
to me, saying:
"Yes, I have loved
you with an everlasting love;
Therefore with lovingkindness

O virgin of Israel!
You shall again be adorned
with your tambourines,
And go forth in the
dances of those who rejoice."

White House Cleaner

Emma Daniel Gray
16-4-1914 - 8-6-2009

Emma Gray who faithfully cleaned the Oval Office
at the White House each night for 24 years died
at a nursing centre in Cheverly, just outside Washington,
aged 95.

Gray kept the office clean for six Presidents
and each night when she came to the leader's chair,
she would pause, and say a quick prayer,
asking for blessings, wisdom and safety for each of them.

Gray was born in Edgefield, South Carolina
and raised by her grandfather,
who had been a slave. "He was sold three times,"
she told a newspaper about 10 years ago.
"He paid his boss' son 20 cents to teach
him to read, and when he could read,
he loved the Ten Commandments so much
that people in the town began calling him Uncle Ten."

She married William Gray and they had seven children.
William died in 1966 and she never remarried.
Her family and friends treasured her cooking,
especially her specialty, sweet potato pie.
And she had a way of boosting the spirits of everybody.
"She learned early that you set the tone
for your environment," her pastor, Bishop Royce Woods said.

"That's why church was so important to her.
She understood it to be that kind of institution
that was conducive to what you needed
spiritually, emotionally and sometimes financially." he said.
"She preached her own eulogy by the life that she lived."

When she died she was the matriarch of six generations.
She is survived by five of her seven children, 35 grandchildren,
61 great-grand-children and many great-great-grandchildren and
Washington Post.
Excerpt from the Tribute section of The Age ,July 7 2009.

Psalm 23 :5,6
"You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy
shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house
of the Lord

Bury thy Sorrow

I thought I would post this song
tonight as I will be away and
will not have access to a computer
to post up a picture this week.
This song, taken from an old hymn

sung by Ira D. Sankey, was a blessing to me
during a time of suffering in my life.
Maybe it will help someone else.

Metzy's on her Mobile

Metzy's on her mobile
yes she whiles away the hours,
always talking
never walking
doesn't believe in exercise.

Monnie is a different girl
loves to walk
not much talk
agile and serene
life is good it seems.

Metzy's health well it appears
is coming apart it's all arrears
aches and pains
and a tummy spare
much to her despair.

Monnie though is all aglow
for she walks to and fro.
She keeps active
and looks attractive
and at night, she sleeps tight.

Metzy however, well
her skin like leather,
lying in the sun
and all too, often.
She parties at night
she's not so bright
and she's always so tired
her boss nearly fired her!

When Monnie turns sixty
she'll no doubt look fifty
her bones well and strong
yes, my dears.
For she eats her fruit and vegetables
yes, her life impeccable.

But Metzy I fear may not be so agile
her scooter transporting her body, fragile!
Her take- away diet has caught up with her,
and she is still so tired
oh, when will she realize
she must exercise!

Jacinta (don't we all need to do more exercise)
